The Icelandic Sport Fund

Target group

Any public body or non-profit organisation active in the field of sport in Iceland, such as sport clubs, public bodies in charge of sport at local, regional or national level, sport organisations at local, regional or national level, coordinators of national sport events.

Objectives

To improve sport facilities all around Iceland, to support research and innovation in the field of sport and to gather information for policy making (studies, data collection, surveys etc.)

Deadline

October each year.

What are the objectives?

The specific objectives pursued by the Icelandic Sport Fund are:

  • To improve sport facilities all around Iceland
  • To support research and innovation in the field of sport and to gather information for policy making (studies, data collection, surveys etc.)

Public bodies or non-profit organisations active in the field of sport.

Requirements

The fund supports the following actions:

  • Special projects for improving sport facilities
  • Information and dissemination projects in the field of sport
  • Innovative projects aimed at children and young people
  • Educational projects for trainers and guidance counsellors in the field of sport
  • Promote voluntary activities in sport and the awareness of the importance of health enhancing physical activity
  • Sport research

The role of Rannís

Rannís is responsible for managing the fund on behalf of The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture. The Ministry appoints a special Sport Committee that takes final decisions for funding.

The Icelandic Sport Fund allocates around 100.000 € annually to various projects.
