Funds are available for projects broadly related to developing Icelandic Language Technology in digital form. Projects related to converting Icelandic speech to Icelandic text will receive funding priority.
There is no allocated funding while the Strategic Research and Development Programme for Language Technology is ongoing; the fund's resources were transferred to the programme.
The Icelandic Language Technology Fund operates in accordance with funding guidelines approved by the Icelandic Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture. The Fund is dedicated to funding projects that aim to develop and increase use of Icelandic Language Technology. The broader aim of the fund is to support Icelandic as a language, as well as facilitate the utilization of applied communication technologies in Icelandic organizations, institutions, and among the general public.

To be considered, an application must clearly be related to research, technology development, and/or development of infrastructure in the area of Icelandic language technology. In 2015, projects related to converting Icelandic speech to Icelandic text will receive funding priority. Funds are available for both general development projects related to speech conversion, and specific language technology development applications.
Applications are to be prepared and submitted through the Rannis online application system. A detailed project description must be submitted as an attachment within the online application.
Grantees must submit a report of grant expenses within a year of receiving funds. Future payments of grant funds are contingent on the submission of these reports.
