Ágúst Hjörtur Ingþórsson new director of RANNÍS

Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of Science, Industry and Innovation has appointed Ágúst Hjörtur Ingþórsson director of the The Icelandic Centre for Research from 1 April.

Ágúst Hjörtur has since 2020 worked as director of research and innovation at Rannís and was also deputy director. Ágúst Hjörtur joined RANNÍS in 2013 and served as Director of Education and Culture until 2020. Prior to that, he had been in charge of the University of Iceland Research Service for 13 years.


Ágúst holds a BA in philosophy and literature study from the University of Iceland, a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Ottawa and is currently working on a doctoral dissertation alongside work.


The Ministry thanks in its announcement Hallgrímur Jónasson, the outgoing director, for his outstanding work in recent years. "Rannís plays a key role in research, innovation, education and culture and has with immeasurable ambition contributed to the important advancement of knowledge in Icelandic society."
