Call for proposals in the Arctic Research and Studies programme

The Arctic Research and Studies programme 2023-2026 awards preparatory grants to encourage cooperation between Iceland and Norway in the field of Arctic Science. Deadline for proposals is 3. December 2024, at 15:00 UTC.

Preparatory grants are awarded for the initiation of joint grant project applications to international competitive funds. Maximum allocation of each preparatory grants is 25.000 EUR (with maximum 10.000 EUR for travel expenses) and the maximum duration of funded activity is 17 months from project launch.

Eligible activities include work hours for preparation of application to the EU framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe, and other international competitive research and educational programmes such as Erasmus+, Nordplus, EEA and Norway Grants, NordForsk, Nordic Master and more.

The programme requires at least one Norwegian and one Icelandic legal entity (university, research institute or other type of organisation) jointly apply in order to be eligible for a preparatory grant.

The programme is based on a Memorandum of Understanding for co-operation between Iceland and Norway in the field of Arctic scientific research. The Icelandic and Norwegian Ministries of Foreign Affairs finance the Artic Research and Studies programme. The Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannís) is responsible for the administration of the programme in cooperation with the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-DIR).
